Weather Forecast: Temperatures have already started to drop in northern states like Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. With snowfall in the mountains and cold northwesterly winds, winter will soon make its presence felt in the plains, bringing potentially record-breaking cold to these regions.
IMD Weather Forecast: This Year, Cold Temperatures Expected to Break Records in Many States
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert predicting record-breaking cold temperatures across several states this year. Usually, people start pulling out their blankets and quilts around Diwali, but as of now (November 1, 2024), the chill is only noticeable in the early mornings and evenings. IMD forecasts suggest that rain will continue in many states over the coming days, but severe winter conditions could set in by mid-November, especially in northern India.
Cold Weather to Arrive in Delhi by November 15
According to IMD, Delhi is likely to experience a slight dip in temperature in the first week of November, with colder weather anticipated from around November 15, 2024. The two rounds of snowfall already recorded in the mountains in October have led to cooler winds, though the full onset of winter has yet to occur. Snowfall in the hilly areas combined with northwesterly winds could bring intense cold to Delhi and other plains regions by mid-November.
Winter Making Its Way to UP and Bihar
The IMD predicts that central India, including Madhya Pradesh, might experience a notable drop in temperatures by November 10. In Bhopal and other cities, temperatures have already started to dip since Diwali. While Bihar hasn’t yet seen significant cold, the weather is expected to cool considerably by Chhath Puja.
In Uttar Pradesh, cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Noida, and Prayagraj are already experiencing lower temperatures, and a further drop is anticipated over the next week. This suggests that winter could fully settle in UP by November 10.
Cold Wave Expected in Rajasthan Next Week
Currently, Rajasthan is experiencing only mild cold in the mornings and evenings. However, IMD forecasts rain and snowfall in the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand by November 3. This shift in weather patterns could lead to a significant drop in temperatures in Rajasthan, bringing colder conditions by the end of the upcoming week.
