According to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, fuel prices are expected to decrease by up to 5 rupees per liter. The cut will apply to both petrol and diesel.Streamlining Fuel Transport SystemMinister Puri shared the news on the social media platform X, explaining that oil companies have raised the commission for petrol pump dealers for the first time in seven years. Despite this, prices are set to decrease as oil companies have decided to make fuel transportation more efficient. Under this initiative, refineries will be linked by rail and road, making it easier to distribute fuel across states.Example Price Reductions in OdishaIn a post on his X handle, Puri mentioned, “For example, in Malkangiri district of Odisha, petrol prices in Kunanapalli and Kalimela will drop by ₹4.69 and ₹4.55, respectively, while diesel prices will decrease by ₹4.45 and ₹4.32.” Similarly, in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, petrol prices will see a reduction of ₹2.09, and diesel prices will drop by ₹2.02.Implementation TimelineThe minister further mentioned that this decision would take effect after the assembly election results in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Puri welcomed the oil marketing companies’ decision to raise dealer commissions and optimize inter-state fuel transport, which will benefit consumers in remote areas by reducing prices in various regions of the country.Minister Puri highlighted that this move, a long-standing demand, will bring relief and happiness to petrol pump dealers and the nearly one million employees at over 83,000 petrol stations across the nation. This landmark decision is credited to the Modi government and the collective consensus among petrol dealer associations, which agreed to withdraw all pending court cases related to marketing issues in a government-organized meeting.
