A Delhi man, halted by police for using a modified silencer on his bike, reportedly called his father for help and then assaulted the officers.

A man in Delhi and his father were taken into custody after allegedly assaulting police officers who had stopped him for using a bike with an illegally modified silencer, officials reported today.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening in Jamia Nagar, southeast Delhi, where a Delhi Police inspector and a constable sustained injuries. Police had initially stopped the individual, identified as Asif, due to excessive noise coming from his Royal Enfield Bullet.

Upon inspection, authorities found that Asif’s bike had an “illegally” modified silencer, causing noise levels to exceed legal limits, thereby violating the Motor Vehicles Act.

Asif, 24, reportedly called his father, Riyazuddin, to the scene, and Riyazuddin allegedly attempted to forcibly take the bike away. When the inspector intervened, Riyazuddin allegedly restrained him while Asif struck the officer near his eye. They also allegedly assaulted other officers present.

“We have filed charges against Asif and his father for obstructing a public servant in the line of duty and for physically assaulting the SHO and other officers on duty,” an official stated.

The injured officers have been taken to the hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
