Those who reach 100 years or older will be eligible for a full 100% compassionate allowance on their basic pension.
The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) has announced that central government pensioners aged 80 and above will be eligible for an additional pension called the compassionate allowance. New guidelines have been issued to simplify the process for central government civil service retirees to receive these supplementary benefits once they reach the age of 80.
The additional compassionate allowance will be paid as follows:
- Age 80-85: 20% of the basic pension/compassionate allowance.
- Age 85-90: 30% of the basic pension/compassionate allowance.
- Age 90-95: 40% of the basic pension/compassionate allowance.
- Age 95-100: 50% of the basic pension/compassionate allowance.
- Age 100 and above: 100% of the basic pension/compassionate allowance.
Eligibility for this additional allowance starts on the first day of the month when the pensioner reaches the specified age. For example, a pensioner born on August 20, 1942, would qualify for an extra 20% of their pension starting August 1, 2022. This increase aims to help pensioners manage rising living costs associated with ageing.
To ensure timely distribution, the DoPPW has directed all relevant departments and banks involved in pension disbursement to communicate these updates to all eligible pensioners.
