A major road accident occurred in Almora, Uttarakhand, where a bus fell into a gorge. This tragic incident has resulted in the death of 36 people, with many others injured. Rescue operations are currently underway at the scene.
The bus, carrying over 55 passengers, plunged into a river near Marchula. Emergency services, including police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), arrived promptly to carry out rescue efforts. The accident, which took place on Monday, led to immediate reports of fatalities, with confirmed deaths reaching 36 as authorities continue to assess the situation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for those who lost their lives in the accident. He extended his sympathies to the families affected and wished for a speedy recovery for the injured. The local administration is actively engaged in rescue and relief operations under the supervision of the state government.
The bus was en route from Kinath to Ramnagar when it fell into the river near the Sarad Band. The chaos that ensued as the bus went over the edge resulted in several deaths on the spot, while others were thrown from the vehicle. Survivors provided information about the incident to the authorities.
The Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, announced compensation for the victims’ families, pledging INR 4 lakh for each deceased and INR 1 lakh for the injured. He has also instructed the suspension of the enforcement officer from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) related to the accident.
The Chief Minister communicated with key officials, including the Secretary of Disaster Management and the District Magistrate of Almora, to expedite rescue and relief operations. Special teams from both the SDRF and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed to the site. Should the need arise, plans for airlifting seriously injured passengers have also been put in place.
In a message of sorrow, Prime Minister Modi reiterated his condolences and announced a relief package from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, providing INR 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and INR 50,000 to the injured.
