Anil Singh alleged that the SP of Chandauli, along with several senior officers and personnel from Chandauli Kotwali, were extorting ₹12.5 lakh every month from the public and distributing the money among themselves. Enraged by this revelation, the then SP of Chandauli dismissed Singh from his position.
According to official sources, Anil Singh, a resident of Bhullanpur’s Shiv Shankar Colony in Varanasi, filed a criminal complaint in 2022 under Section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Singh alleged that senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chandauli and others from Chandauli Kotwali, were extorting ₹12.5 lakh monthly from the public and dividing the proceeds among themselves. An inquiry conducted by DIG (Vigilance) Love Kumar confirmed the allegations.
Following this exposé, Singh was dismissed from service on February 28, 2021, by the then SP of Chandauli. Singh further claimed that many individuals who exposed corruption had been killed. In a complaint filed on September 5, 2021, Singh alleged that a group of police officers, including then-SP Amit Kumar, SWAT team inspector Rajeev Kumar Singh, surveillance in-charge inspector Ajit Kumar Singh, and SHO Satyendra Vikram Singh, kidnapped him from his in-laws’ residence in Badhara, Ghazipur.
Singh claimed that these officers arrived in plain clothes in an unmarked vehicle with the intent to kill him. However, Singh’s daughter, Khushboo Singh, managed to alert the police and informed the SHO of Nandganj Police Station, potentially saving his life. He alleged that after being illegally detained for two days, he was falsely implicated in a fabricated case registered at Babhuri Police Station in Chandauli on September 7, 2021.
Singh subsequently approached the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Ghazipur, filing an application under Section 156(3) of the CrPC. After examining the evidence, the court ordered on September 21, 2024, the registration of an FIR against the accused officers and directed a thorough investigation into the matter.
Following the court’s directive, the FIR was lodged on November 27, 2024, at Nandganj Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 147 (rioting), 219 (misconduct by public servant), 220 (wrongful confinement), 364 (kidnapping), 389 (extortion), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using forged documents), and 120B (criminal conspiracy). The FIR names inspector Rajeev Kumar Singh, inspector Ajit Kumar Singh, IPS officer Amit Kumar, and other officers stationed in Chandauli and nearby districts.
