Ratan Tata Passes Away at 86: India Pays Tribute with State Funeral

Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the final rites of industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata, representing the Government of India. His body was placed at the NCPA Lawns in Nariman Point, Mumbai, for the public to offer their respects. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Tata’s last rites would be conducted with full state honors. In his memory, the national flag will be flown at half-mast, and the state has declared official mourning on October 10, with all entertainment activities suspended.

Ratan Tata, the former chairman of Tata Sons and a celebrated philanthropist, passed away on October 9 at the age of 86. He had been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital in critical condition, where he later passed. His death has left the nation in shock, with leaders from both political and business spheres expressing their condolences.

In a heartfelt statement, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said, “We mourn the loss of Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, an extraordinary leader whose unparalleled contributions not only shaped the Tata Group but also the progress of our nation.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute, describing Ratan Tata as “a visionary business leader, a compassionate individual, and an exceptional human being.”
