Justin Trudeau is facing mounting pressure from members of his own Liberal Party amid the escalating diplomatic tensions between Canada and India.

Amid escalating tensions between India and Canada, which recently saw both nations expelling top diplomats over the investigation into the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, several Liberal MPs are reportedly urging Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down by October 28.

Some members of Trudeau’s own Liberal Party have suggested that he should not seek a fourth term, with MP Ken McDonald stating that Trudeau needs to “start listening to the people.” Several MPs have allegedly demanded that he “leave by October 28.”

Following a party meeting, Trudeau ally and Immigration Minister Marc Miller acknowledged that MPs were speaking frankly to the prime minister, whether he liked it or not.

According to an AP report, three Liberal MPs confirmed they were among more than 20 lawmakers who signed a letter asking Trudeau to resign before the next election. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported that 24 of the party’s 153 legislators had signed a letter calling for his departure.

While some Liberal MPs have expressed their dissatisfaction, many still voiced their support for Trudeau, suggesting he take the criticism seriously. After the meeting, a confident Trudeau insisted that the party remained “strong and united” and reaffirmed his intent to lead the Liberals into the next election, likely slated for October 2025.
