Irish Premier Condemns Firing on Peacekeepers Amid Unifil Attacks
Irish Premier Simon Harris has strongly condemned recent reports of Israeli forces firing on United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) positions, stating that such actions “can never be tolerated or acceptable.” This comes amid rising tensions in the region, where the Irish Defence Forces are serving as part of the peacekeeping mission.
Unifil reported that Israeli forces had “repeatedly hit” their positions in the past 24 hours, leading to injuries for two peacekeepers. Harris expressed deep concern over the situation, emphasizing that all Irish troops stationed in southern Lebanon were safe and accounted for.
“We send our solidarity to the military personnel who suffered light injuries as a result,” Harris said, reaffirming Ireland’s support for peacekeepers and condemning any attacks on those serving to maintain stability in conflict zones.
