As Pakistan prepares to host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, they have introduced a new flexible proposal aimed at ensuring India’s participation despite ongoing uncertainties surrounding travel between the two nations. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has assured the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that it will provide all necessary security and comfort to the Indian team, offering adaptable arrangements to facilitate their involvement in the much-anticipated event.
Scheduled from February 19 to March 9, 2025, the tournament’s organization faces challenges due to the strained political relations between Pakistan and India. The BCCI has emphasized that India’s participation will depend on the Indian government’s clearance, following thorough security assessments.
In response, the PCB has proposed a unique solution that would allow the Indian team to return to Delhi or Chandigarh after each match, minimizing the duration of their stay in Pakistan. Originally, all of India’s matches were set to be played in Lahore for logistical ease. However, recent suggestions from broadcasters have recommended moving one of India’s group stage matches—likely against New Zealand—to Rawalpindi. This adjustment aims to increase broadcast reach and enhance fan engagement by distributing the matches between Lahore and Rawalpindi.
The PCB, prioritizing India’s comfort and safety, has expressed openness to this modification, ensuring high-quality facilities regardless of the venue. Additionally, the Indian team has a ten-day break between their second and third group stage matches, providing an opportunity for them to return to India for training or rest during this period. The PCB has pledged to make travel arrangements smooth and efficient for the Indian side.
In its communications, the PCB clarified that the offer to return to India between matches is not driven by security concerns but is intended to provide convenience and comfort to the Indian players. The board reiterated its commitment to offering top-tier hospitality, whether the Indian team chooses to remain in Lahore or play one of their matches in Rawalpindi.
Lahore, being near the Indian border, remains an ideal location for India’s matches, while Rawalpindi is another viable option. India is grouped with Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand in Group A for the tournament.
