On the tenth day, an increase in theater attendance was noted, especially in Tamil Nadu. The movie recorded an overall Tamil occupancy rate of 26.60%, with Chennai leading at 34%, followed by Trichy at 36%, and Coimbatore at 30%. Reports suggest that Lyca Productions, the studio behind Vettaiyan, has reached out to Rajinikanth regarding potential compensation for the film’s lackluster performance. Although no official confirmation has been made, it is rumored that the studio is in discussions with the actor to reduce his fee for future projects. This follows a string of underperforming collaborations between the production company and Rajinikanth, including films like 2.0, Darbar, and Lal Salaam. With Vettaiyan struggling at the box office, Lyca is reportedly exploring ways to minimize losses, possibly by negotiating another film with Rajinikanth under revised financial terms.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan features Rajinikanth once again in the role of a police officer. The filmmaker has teased the possibility of a prequel titled Vettaiyan: The Hunter, which would explore the backstory of Rajinikanth’s character, Athiyan, and his journey to becoming an encounter specialist. Additionally, the prequel would delve into the transformation of Fahadh Faasil’s character into a thief and police informant.
Fans were eager to see Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan reunite on screen, marking their first collaboration since Hum (1991). Despite the high-profile cast, including Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan, the film has struggled to meet box office expectations.
