AI-ccident: CEOs Help Self-Driving Waymo Car After Crash with Bus in San Francisco

In a bizarre incident in San Francisco, a self-driving Waymo vehicle collided with a bus while a group of CEOs were leaving a party, leading them to assist the stuck car—a moment that quickly went viral. Freddy Vega, a Brazilian CEO, shared the details on X, stating, “A Waymo car driven by AI crashed with a Muni bus driven by a human in San Francisco. Right in front of YC’s founder after-party.”

The video shows several individuals pushing the Waymo vehicle in an attempt to move it out of the way. Vega humorously referred to the situation as “founder mode.” He noted the irony of the crash occurring just after an AI conference focused on the future of automation, stating, “And here’s this AI completely stuck and blocking traffic.”

Despite their efforts, the Waymo car’s battery eventually ran out, causing the bus to navigate around it to continue its route. The video, which has garnered over 453,000 views, sparked a wave of commentary critiquing AI technology. One user quipped, “No investors were harmed during this intervention,” while another remarked on the surreal juxtaposition of CEOs aiding a “confused robot.”

The incident highlighted both the unpredictable challenges of AI and the humorous reality of technology’s current limitations.
